    Tough Boy

I always knew that Will was one tough cookie but last night he really proved it.  He had to have three stitches in his left index finger right on the knuckle.  He was at a graduation party playing with all the other kiddos and somehow managed to stick his finger in either the wheel or chain of a stationary bike (nobody saw exactly what happened.)  Joe and I were out celebrating some friends of ours (Tim and Courtney) marriage and had to leave and meet him at the hospital.  When we arrived he had a band-aid on so I couldn't see the extent of the damage.  We went through checking him in and getting his vitals and he seemed to calm down a little so I wasn't sure if he really needed to be there or not.  Well, when the PA was taking the band-aid off that calm little boy quickly became terrified again.  I don't blame him.  The finger was POURING blood.  It obviously needed stitches but they also wanted to make sure it wasn't broken (which is what Grandma/Grandpa were worried about and why they decided he should be taken to the hospital.)  At this point it was time to numb him up.  I have always heard (never having had stitches myself) that the shot is the worst part so I was not looking forward to this for him.  He hollered and cried but was relatively still for them while they stuck him.  He kept saying "This is terrible!" I hated to see him in pain.  After the shot he cheered right back up and then it was time for x-rays.  He was talking to all the nurses, doctors, and radiologists the whole night. I was cracking up at how nonchalant he was acting.  The "BIG camera" was pretty exciting to him and he cooperated really well.  Good news was he didn't break it but the bad news was it was time to put in the stitches.  They cleaned him up really well and then started digging around to make sure the tendon wasn't damaged. He started wiggling and saying "don't touch my owie."  At first we thought he was just nervous from the previous shot but soon realized he could feel it still.  So another shot and trauma was had and then three stitches (which he ended up feeling every bit of!)  Even with all the pain he went through he didn't want to leave!  He liked the bed and TV and I am pretty sure it was nice that all the attention was on him for a change around here.  The staff in the ER was exceptional and it was neat that the EMT that cleaned him up was named Will also!

     Tuckered out!
He seems to be fine with it this morning. I was afraid the bandage would have to come off as soon as he woke up but he has left it alone.
